The home's first formal event in Mexico City - hosted at a private club in Polanco - opened a chapter we have been quietly building for three years. Forty-seven of the one hundred and forty attendees were second- or third-generation supporters whose families had been giving to the home through Israeli intermediaries since the nineteen-sixties. Many were meeting the current director for the first time.
The evening raised $640,000 in pledges, opened twelve new monthly sponsorships, and produced the introduction that led to the home's first Mexican board member, who joined the international advisory council in March. Rabbi Chaim Elazar's remarks were delivered in a Spanish that one attendee, a longtime supporter from Polanco, described as "valiant but improvable." That same supporter is now arranging weekly tutoring for him ahead of the December event.
